We are dedicated to protecting and enhancing the historic buildings and environment of the cathedral city of Ripon on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.


Our aims include:

  • promoting heritage protection and conservation projects in the city
  • promoting the highest levels of architecture, planning and design
  • stimulating public awareness of the best qualities of Ripon
  • acting as a leading voice in the development and prosperity of the city

    The next Meeting is on 
    Thursday 8 April 2010, [NB this is the SECOND Thursday of the month, not the first]
    when Dr Ann-Marie Akehurst, an architectural historian from the University of York, will talk about Nicholas Hawksmoor, one England's greatest architects and the designer of Ripon's obelisk.  The talk
    takes place at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall, Ripon, starting at 7.30pm. 
    Everyone is welcome; non-members pay £2.00.

    BREAKING Jonathan Foyle BWNEWS!
    On Friday 11 June the Society will welcome Dr Jonathan Foyle, Chief Executive of the World Monument Fund Britain
    and a regular contributor to television's 'Time Team', 'House Detectives' and 'The One Show'.  His talk,  'Palaces for the People - The Victorian Town Halls of Northern England' will be at Holy Trinity Church.  More details here
