CIVIC SOCIETY SAYS FAREWELL TO ITS CHAIRMAN
9th November 2008
Ripon Civic Society said farewell to its longest-serving Chairman, Mrs Dorothy Taylor at its Annual General Meeting – and presented her with a craftsman-made glass bowl in appreciation of her work.
Mrs Taylor had been Chairman of Ripon Civic Society since 1995. During her chairmanship the Society has had many notable achievements, including its initiation of the refurbishment of the Market Square. Its work was recognised at the recent ‘Jewels of Ripon’ Awards, when Mrs Taylor received the Environmental Award on the Society’s behalf.
David Winpenny, newly-elected Chairman, says, ‘We were very pleased to be able to celebrate the long chairmanship of Dorothy Taylor with the special presentation of a hand-made glass bowl from Yorkshire glassmakers Gilles Jones. Dorothy has been – and I am sure will continue to be – one of Ripon’s greatest champions. She was a remarkable and enthusiastic leader for the Society, and we are delighted that she was able to remain Chairman into our 40th anniversary year.’
