The deadline for the ‘Quirky Ripon’ photo competition being run by Ripon Civic Society is fast approaching – and the Society is encouraging all young people to get snapping.

The competition, which is open to anyone up to the age of 18, is looking for images to illustrate the theme of Ripon’s quirkiness. They can be pictures of anything – odd details of buildings, unusual happenings or events, nature, people – that capture something about Ripon and the surrounding

There are two categories – up to age 11 and 12 to 18. Winners in each section will receive a digital camera, and runners up will get cash prizes. There will also be a display of the winning pictures in Ripon to mark the national Civic Day on Saturday 25 June.

There is no charge to enter the competition. Entries will be accepted on disk, memory stick or by e-mail. There are more details on the Civic Society’s website at www.riponcivicsocety.org.uk.

David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘We’re really looking forward to receiving entries that show the more unusual aspects of Ripon! So if you’re a young photographer, please enter – and if you’re not, but know someone who is, please encourage them to take part. We all know that Ripon and the area around is very special, and there are many subjects for the competition – let’s see them in your pictures!’
