22nd October 2012
Ripon Civic Society’s next meeting, on Thursday 1 October, will start with a question-and-answer session with David Laugher, whose son Jack was part of the Team GB diving team in the Olympics, and is a Ripon Grammar School student.

Jack himself may be at the meeting, if his training and competing schedule permits. Civic Society members and guests will be able to find out about Jack’s diving and the gold medals he has recently won in the 3-metre synchro competition, with Tom Daley, and the 3-metre springboard at the World Junior Diving Championships in Adelaide.

David Winpenny, Chairman of Ripon Civic Society, says, ‘The Civic Society is always interested in how the city interacts with the world, and Jack has certainly helped to put Ripon on the map. David Laugher will help give us an insight into the world of top-class competitive diving – and about the dedication needed to get a young competitor to the peak of his sport.’

The meeting takes place at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall in Victoria Grove, Ripon, and starts at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome, and pay £3.00 for the evening. After the talk the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting.
